A New Year and new sewing room!

Where the ironing board stands, was once boy #2's crib!! Then it was replaced by a queen mattress on the floor, then two twin beds so boy #2 and boy #3 could share a room once boy #3 was out of his crib in his own room... then boy #3 moved back into his own room and on to the queen mattress, and boy #2 moved in to bunk with boy #1 in his room! So, this sunny yellow room has seen a lot of changes, but for about a year it has been a catch all for everything that doesn't have a place to go, and only once in a while it's used as a guest room by our beloved babysitting grandparents... So today one twin bed was dismantled and put up in the attic with all the other forgotten furniture :(

My "new" sewing table was once my own grandparent's porch dining table, and then was on my own porch growing up, so it holds wonderful memories for me - the chair too was my grandmother's and has a beautiful needlepoint seat.

Anyway, the kids go back to school Tuesday and I can start sewing again - yippee!!

Happy New Year!

woobie

"I understand that you little guys start out with your woobies and you think they're great... and they are, they are terrific. But pretty soon, a woobie isn't enough. You're out on the street trying to score an electric blanket, or maybe a quilt. And the next thing you know, you're strung out on bedspreads Ken. That's serious"

A photographic progress report...

I've got the house quilt almost under control. I've made the majority of the top, and have started the embroidery and hand stitching at night. It's about 19 inches short in depth (and probably length too) so I'm going to have to figure out some sort of border to make it twin size.

The basket quilt is coming along as well. Now that I'm in the "hand stitching at night while watching tv" phase with the other, I got back to making baskets yesterday and got a whole lot more done today which I haven't photographed. I think I'll add a top and bottom border of cupcakes and teacups to this one. I was going to make dolls too, but not sure I have it in me, and not sure they are needed. The other quilt it soooo busy and this one is so orderly... I don't want to mess that up... even though you really can't go wrong with matryoshka dolls!

PS - these quilts will be sharing a room, as they are going to sisters...

New dolls - making my own matryoshka dolls now

So, now I am slightly behind in one project and slightly ahead in another! I'm making Matryoshka dolls now ( lots of applique to do!) for the house quilt and will save the already made dolls for a baby quilt later on. Wish I had had more sewing time this week, but due to a massive snow storm in October, school were closed for 3 days and I missed out on the 2 days a week when I'm by myself for 5.5 hours!

A little of what I've been up to...

A few more baskets were made as well, and I added chimneys to all the houses! Can't have a house without a fireplace!

Ode to Poppy Treffry

I love the style of Poppy Treffy, and this is styled after her house design. I love the roof and double chimney. I'd forgotten chimneys on the other houses I've made so far, so I went back and added some. Can't forget to embroider swirling smoke coming out of them.

the baskets so far...

I didn't think it would be possible to get tired of making baskets, but I just sewed them up for the last 3.5 hours or so, and I'm officially tired of them (for the moment!) I'll have to switch back to houses - or tea cups and cupcakes - perhaps for a border for this quilt? (fancy purses go with tea parties, right?!?)

Uber Quilt Fest Block 4

I like this block a lot, but I was way off in size and my trimming is all wonky... I had to add the additional turquoise border on the right and top to make it the same size as the other blocks (which are also smaller than designed, but they all finished at the same (smaller) size.)

What a very LOUD quilt this is becoming! In a good or bad way though??

Uberfest Block #3

Not a huge fan of this one - don't like how I made the bold red area swooshing across the center. If the diamond pattern was replaced with a smaller scale floral, I think I'd be a lot happier. Has too much of a 1950s diner feel to me. But, it's doubtful that I'll redo it, so, here it is. Block #3!

And more Japanese + and x blocks...

I think maybe 7 more blocks to go for a nice baby quilt... unless I want to make a big beautiful throw or picnic blanket for myself... then there are many, many more to make. A fun winter project to keep me busy.

Quilt Uber-Fest Block 2: Flying North

Another fun block; this one by Miss Print - http://miss-print.blogspot.com/
The placement of the dots is not where I had planned, but as I didn't pay attention when I cut my strips, so be it!
