I love Spring!

It's not quite spring, but we've had a warmish, sunny day here in NH and the snow is starting to melt, and I can see my deck again (well, most of it!) Here's the finished heart quilt, a month behind schedule for Valentine's Day, photographed on my deck :)

Other new stuff

These two quilts are coming along! Final pictures coming soon!

A drum quilt for a little drummer boy

This is a custom order for a new baby of a professional drummer. When asked to make a drum quilt, I was stumped, but then I remembered an Ikea sheet with drums that was hidden deep in my fabric closet. From there I found coordinating fabric - and how perfect is Moda's Apple Jack fabric with the alphabet theme - and D is for Drum was born. I don't think I've ever made a quilt with hour glass blocks, so that was something new to do... and of course there had to be a big appliquéd drum. I think all my quilts now will have to have an appliqué or two... it'll be my signature piece!

New stuff...

A cross quilt, using colors I don't use very often. The change feels good!
A bunch more rows to go.

I started another boy's seaside quilt, of course before I'm done with others...
I've actually cut squares for 2 or 3 baby quilts.

And here's a top I meant to have done by Valentine's Day...
I'm going to appliqué solid red hearts on those light gray squares.

A little catch up!

I haven't posted anything here in a while! I have some updates on Facebook, if you're following, but if not, here are pictures of some things I've been working on. Sadly though, I just had to give up my sewing room to my 6 yr old son who was tired of sharing a room with his brother and wanted his room back... so, I have left my 2nd story room with two windows and natural sunlight, for the basement with two little slit windows, and I share the room with the boys' coats, dirty boots and the new cat's kitty litter :( It's also pretty cold down here! On the up side, come summer, it will stay cool... though I can't open windows for fresh air... ahh well... it's somewhere to put my machine!

This is my fabric stash... It will have to move down to the basement so my boy can have his closet back. I have to talk the hubby into a 3 hour round trip to Ikea for shelves!

My new kitty

Setting up by new studio... those dark bookcases will come out and
be replaced with Expedit Ikea shelves :)

A Christmas quilt

My 6 yr old said he loved this and that it was my best one yet :) I'm hoping to drag myself to Jo-Anns on Friday for a big sale on flannel. I'm shopping for at least 7 quilt tops!

It's a boy! (quilt top, that is...)

This quilt would be great for a little boy, but you know, it's neutral enough that it would work for a girl too (there's even a touch of pink in it...) It would be a perfect baby shower gift for the mom who is waiting to find out... Anyway, it's not done yet - has to be backed with a soft and bright flannel.

All the animal prints came from an IKEA duvet cover I bought a couple of years ago - very whimsical creatures.

Scrappy log cabins

I have three huge and overflowing plastic tubs filled with various sizes of scraps, and I decided that I need to start using them up or they are going to take over my sewing room! Here's a start with 49 blocks measuring 7.5 x 7.5. I need to keep going as I've only used up about  1/100 of what I've got! I think I'll make a couple good size throws and then a few crib quilts. It's a fun and satisfying project.

The last of the Blogger's BOM blocks!

There were 13 block tutorials, and I ended up with 14 blocks, so I must have added one from somewhere else along the way, but that's OK. What fun. I look forward to October 25th when we find out the suggested way of putting them all together.

Have to say though that two straight days of HSTs has wiped me out, and that's a bummer as star blocks (heavy on the HSTs) are my favorites!

Gypsy Caravan quilt top

A Gypsy Caravan quilt coming in at 40x48, and wondering if I should go bigger... more 10x12 blocks or a nice thick border?? or, am I done? - much prettier in person, but photographed on a rainy day :(

Blogger's BOM catch up: blocks 7, 8, 9 and 10
