New Blocks

I'm afraid that I'm so into trying out new blocks now that I'm soon to have a house full of them, and no finished quilts for a while. I'm addicted to looking though wonderful blogs, flickr, pininterest and the new books that have come in the mail - all have so many inspiring projcts.

For some reason, the pictures are all coming in sideways (can't tell with the dresden plate - which was my FIRST ONE, by the way. I finally bit the bullet to try one) so imagine them all turned counter clockwise 90 degees, please :)

Block 4 - Block - a - Palooza

I think this new block may be my favorite.... until next Monday. It's hard to wait for the next tutorial, but in the mean time, the boys and I have valentines to make!! And, I've found a few other tutorials to try out if there's time...

The beginning of a glorious new quilt!!!

I am giddy about this project  - I'm going to  take some ideas from Kajsa Wikman's awesome book "Scandinavian Stitches" and combine them with my lovely new matryoshka dolls, toadstools, and flowers, and then try out some new quilt blocks at the same time - oh, if only I had a lot more time!!! Anyway, this block is waiting for all the images to be sewn down, and then I'll add some embroidered details, like the much needed clothes line and pins, smoke from the chimney, bird beaks and legs, and of course the tummy worm for the two baby birds in the nest. And the door needs a knob, right? A little red button will come to the rescue.

These gorgeous Matryoshkas just arrived in the mail today. They shall make their way into a quilt or two, and sooner than later, a little cottagey house pillow... perhaps peaking out of an upstairs window, or behind a door. goose bumps...

Block Three ~ Block-a-Palooza

Blocks 1,2 and 3 together! Can't wait until Thursday for the next block! (I think I will start working in a little yellow from block 1.)  Boy, I wonder what it's all going to look like at the end of March when we've done the last block. Hope I don't run out of Flower Sugar and Delilah! Would hate to have to buy more... well, not really...

And I've changed from baby burrito blankets... Though I probably should have dropped the baby burrito part as no search engines can find me! I might have more luck with amandamcdonoughquilts.com, but I've got what I've got for the next year!

So fabric woes... We ordered a brand new couch, chair and ottoman a few weeks ago and were in LOVE with our fabric choices. Then we got the dreaded phone call that our couch fabric (the yellow with the petite blue fleurs) is no more, so we had to pick out a new one today. Not only does that mean we aren't getting our first choice, but we also have to wait an additional 3 weeks or so for the couch to come... grrr. Hoppefully it's going to be gorgeous, but for now, we have to just be happy that it costs less (because the fabric isn't as great a quility... sob sob...) Anyway, pretend the yellow fabric is now a pretty little tiny gingham with white spots. It's called Mama's Apron Strings - cute, right?

Block Two!

Although I love this block, I missed a step of trimming the 9 patches before sewing them all together, so the whole block is an inch too big. Now I shall be ripping the rows apart, trimming, and sewing them all back together. And my fingers will be crossed that it comes out to 12.5 inches!!

Block One ~ Block-a-Palooza

I just joined my first virtual quilting bee. Twice a week, a fabulous quilt blogger will post directions for a block. Here's my first block.  It's measuring small... might have to redo it, but I think it's pretty...
Tomorrow block two will be released. What will it be??

Summer Dream zig zag quilt

My new year's resolution was to push myself to learn new blocks and styles and just keep at it. So, here's another new quilt in a zig zag, which I've never done, and it's hand stitched, with I've never done this much of. It's pretty neat. But, now I'm going to take a little break and get back to my early roots of vintage style boy quilts... yea :)

Learning new blocks - here are a couple...

This wonky star is my new favorite and I see it in baby quilts and perhaps a king for my own bed, that I'll probably never finish!

Zig Zags!!!

This zig zag is actually horizontal, not vertical as seen here... not sure why it loaded here on it's side!?!

A zig zag quilt has been on my to do list forever!! Here's one row, plus the fabric for the soon to be made zig zags. A touch of summer here, where we're stuck on another snow day in January.

I have been so bad....

I can't seem to keep up with this blog, though I tag the url on my email, so maybe I should before people forget about my quilting business. My new year's resolution is to quilt, quilt and quilt some more, and I've got to document that here!! So, my next order of business will be to post pictures of my latest projects.
