Just finished this custom quilt order last night. I am very happy with how it came out, and hope the little girl it's going to will love it too!

Seaside by October Afternoon

Boy, do I wish it was May, so this fabric would be released. I see another sailboat quilt in my future!!

This is seriously cute!!

 I love the "trunk" plaid...

Triangles and a bunting quilt

I spent most of my short sewing morning sewing pink and white borders to my new Matryoshka quilt, but I had a few minutes to try sewing triangles together. I've always wanted to make a bunting quilt, and figured I'd applique one since I'd never tackled triangles before, but I think I'll keep going. It'll be a slow process, but pretty...

Then after a half hour on the tread mill and lunch, I made this one, which I found online last night. The tutorial is awesome with a few different style/color/fabric examples!

Sew .Happy. Quilt. QAL: Churn Dash Redux

Here's the tutorial!http://sewhappygeek.co.uk/index.php/2011/08/23/tutorial-tuesday-churn-dash-redux-quilt-block/

Before I sewed this together, I played around with the orientation of the blocks and came up with some interesting layouts which I want to play around with when (and if ) I ever catch up with all the other things on my "to do" list.

Not shown are two more 3" pinwheels I was able to make from the trimmings from the flying geese. Love little pinwheels - especially polka dot ones!

Robots and Rocket Baby Boy Quilt

I finished this quilt up yesterday morning and just posted it to my shop. It's a fun one - very colorful and the appliques really pop. I'm hoping it will find a little boy to cuddle with!

Happy Belated Valentine's Day!

Still no machine sewing since I don't have my replacement iron (and I don't know when it will ever arrive, so I am very tempted to go buy a new one - without my husband knowing... shhhhh....) but I've been doing lots of hand quilting while I wait...

This heart quilt was to have been in my shop before Valentine's Day, but I didn't get it finished until this morning (while watching the movie "The American" with George Clooney... What a snoozer!)

Happy Belated Valentine's Day!

Pom Pom fringe

I purchased 7 yards of this Riley Blake 1 1/4'' Jumbo Pom Pom Trim Hot Pink fringe online for my matryoshka baby quilt and it arrived today. What was I thinking?? The pom poms are HUGE! I think 3/4 in was what I was after, so now I will have to take a trip to Joann Fabrics and hope that they have the right size and color. Anyway, does anyone have any creative ideas as to what I can do with this? My couches are in need of new pillows...

Shabby Chic goodness

I haven't made anything in days, but I've been keeping busy hand quilting two quilts while watching the first two Harry Potter movies over and over with my sons (and home sick from school 2nd grader today.) I did manage to get out of my pajamas today though and made a quick trip to Michael's for white embroidery floss. Of course they only had 3 in stock... but the trip was worth it because of the $1 bin section. Wowza - some pretty shabby chic paper goods were to be found. I got a few notebooks, a pencil case, tags, small cards, and loads of sweet cupcake liners.

The little cupcake cups are Martha Stewart ones, and I'm actually not sure how much I paid for them... but they were too cute to pass up. I have found that the mini cupcake cups are perfect for making little shades on Christmas lights, so I got these for the lights hanging in my sewing room. I have a set hanging in my kitchen window with heart ones on every other bulb, and it's super cute - even my boys said so!

An iron emergency!

Yesterday I was happily sewing when all of a sudden I smelled smoke. My iron was smoking - not figuratively, but literally, and then two of my smoke alarms went off in the house and scared me to death. Boy, they are LOUD!!

I think a little lint got trapped in the gap between the iron part, and the body, and started to burn - very scary. I feel very lucky that it didn't catch on fire and burn my house down. Anyway, the iron is now toast and will be sent back to the manufacturer, and a replacement sent to me. Until then though, no machine sewing for me. Fortunately I have a lot of hand quilting to catch up on!

Sew. Happy. Quilt. QAL: Peek A Boo Block

I forgot to trim it before I took the picture...

And the extra bonus of this block was being able to make these four little 3" pinwheels with the trimmings. I actually have a bunch of triangles on my sewing room floor waiting for the same treatment!

The tutorial is here -

I haven't sewn anything in 2 days!!

But I have done a little shopping! I got funky new glasses (brown on the outside and turquoise blue on the inside (!!), picked up some new fabric at Jo Ann's - a few of the new Denyse Schmidt ones, and boy are they expensive! The colorful ones were $12.99 a yard! (while the gray ones were $9.99 - having to pay extra for color just doesn't seem right...) Fortunately they were 30% off, and I only got 1/4 each.

Then I went to the mall to return a couple things for the boys, and picked up two shirts and a pair of sleep pants that I almost want to cut up for a quilt!

Then I dragged boy #3 to my favorite antique store (they have a cute kitty and a candy jar, so I don't have to drag him too much - though he did pull me to the candy jar!) and I found this adorable pink table cloth with pom pom fringe for $14. Score! I also picked up a traditional red and white picnic table cloth that I can't decide if I'll use to back a quilt at some point, or actually use as a picnic table cloth... Anyway, I've missed the sewing, but also have enjoyed my couple days "off."
